Solo Travel (whats the options)

From my experience if you want to holiday as a solo traveller you have four options :-

1. Just Book flight and hotel - Done this many times initially I used a local travel agent but then got the confidence to use the internet and sort myself out. Its best to book flight and hotel together as you often get discounts.
I often use Expedia they have some decent deals and I find their reviews accurate, you also get ATOL protection. There are other good companies out there so pays to shop around.
If you go totally Solo remember no tour manager so you need the confidence to sort stuff yourself (i actually enjoy that), does pay to to do your homework before you go, decide what you want to do and see and how you get there. If you want to visit lots of local attractions its economical in many places to get a City Pass in advance (also allows you to queue jump).
Couple of tips, learn the public transport system and pay a bit more for a hotel near what you want to visit or transport becomes expensive.
This is the cheapest way to see the world and ideal for City Breaks.

2. Go with a travel company - But remember the rest of the group will probably be couples and you can be easily isolated from the crowd. Usually a single supplement to pay aswell.
This is not a method I've used as a single but I know some people do.
Did go with a partner with Jet2 to Cyprus and like for like reckon they are better than most of the other companies with competitive prices and decent luggage allowance. Of course on the high street there are Thomas Cook & Thomsons to name two and they provide a good service.
Ideal method to travel if you need to have the confidence of a tour representitive in the resort and you dont mind possibly been on your own. Probably best for those who like Beach holidays, not for me though cant laze all day.

3. Get Friends to Go with You - Sometimes difficult to persuade others but its a possibility, done a couple of America trips with mates, I sorted it all out flights/hotels and we had a great time.
Have also been away in Europe a couple of times with a friend I'd made on a Singles holiday, went on a travelsphere trip to Croatia as it was somewhere we both wanted to visit, was great, also did Lisbon ut we sorted our own flights and hotel.
So yes talking friends into going with you is a good idea.

4. Specialist Singles Companies - First decided to do this because I wanted to get back into holidays after losing my partner. Given the circumstance thought it a good idea to travel with others and an internet search took me to a company called Just You and I booked an holiday with them called "Americas Golden West". Great decision it was that good I booked another holiday with them on my return.
Of course there are other Singles holiday companies and perhaps people who have been with any others will comment, but I believe from talking with others the main two are Just You and a company called Solos.
Not sure they are in direct competition and I'll do a comparrison on a future post but Just You appear to be top on touring holidays with many included and optional excurrsions while Solos are good for Beach or activity holidays.
Personally the Just You type holidays suit me because I like visiting local places of interest have now done 10 trips with them some in America and some in Europe, nothing wong with Solos though and I did try them by going to Crete earlier this year (will post about it) and had a great time.
